Class Descriptions

  • I Can Dance - Ages 2.5-5

    This class is for our little movers that are ready to get up and DANCE! In this class they will be introduced to all genres of dance: ballet, jazz, hip hop and tap as well as learn how to move creatively.

    They will do one dance in the recital.

    Attire:
    ● Girls - Any color leotard/tutu or skirt/tights/pink ballet slippers/white tap shoes
    ● Boys - Comfortable shorts or pants/fitted shirt (nothing too baggy) black ballet shoes (or jazz shoes) black tap shoes

  • HIP HOP Tumblers - Ages 5+

    For all those kiddos that love hip hop and want to learn how to tumble, this is the class for you! This class is a beginner hip hop class mixed with the basics of tumbling. We will put it altogether in a dance for the end of the year recital.

    Attire:

    ● Girls- leotards/shorts/capris/leggings/no shoes or tights
    ● Boys-shorts/pants/fitted shirt/no shoes

  • Tumbling

    * Student(s) will be placed in a class based on level and age.

    Students will learn basic tumbling skills that include cartwheels, bridges, and walkovers. They will stretch, learn flexibility and demonstrate proper technique when performing a tumbling skill. Students will work on skills according to their own individual level. They will perform one dance at the end of the year recital.

    Attire:

    ● Girls - Leotard/shorts/capris/leggings/no shoes or tights
    ● Boys - shorts/pants/fitted shirt/no shoes

  • Ballet/Jazz

    *Child will enroll based on age.

    This class is for anyone that wants to learn both styles, ballet and jazz. This is a great class for anyone who is thinking about doing more classes in the future with competitive dance, or if the student just wants to learn both styles. If the student is looking to improve technique, we recommend taking this class along with a ballet technique class. They will perform two dances at the end of the year recital, one in each style.

    Attire:

    ● Girls - Leotard/tights/ballet skirt/shorts for jazz or leggings/ballet shoes/tan jazz booties
    ● Boys - Shorts/ Pants/ Comfortable but not too baggy shirt

  • Hip Hop

    *Student(s) will be placed in a class based on their age.

    Students will learn rhythm, coordination and musicality while learning various styles of hip hop.

    Attire:

    ● Girls - leggings/capris/sweatpants/shorts only if wearing tights/ comfortable shirt, nothing too baggy. Black Hip Hop dance Sneaker, No street shoes.
    ● Boys - comfortable clothing/Black Dance Sneaker, No street shoes

  • Ballet

    A technical dance form demanding grace and precision. Ballet will instill balance, control and flexibility. There are various levels of technique within this style. This is a technique class only. There are no dances performed at the end of the year recital.

    *The director will place the student in the correct level

    Attire:

    ● Girls - ballet pink tights/black leotard/ hair in a bun
    ● Young Men - black shorts or black fitted pants/ white V-Neck or Black fitted shirt (sleeveless or regular)

  • Jazz Tech and Stretch

    A dance style where the students will learn technique, flexibility, strength and coordination along with tricks and turns. This is a high energy class where students will have fun and learn different combinations. There can be various levels within this style of dance.

    Attire:

    ● Girls - suntan leggings and dance shorts or black leggings/leotard any color (NO TANK TOPS) tan jazz bootie
    ● Young Men - Black Shorts/ Black Jazz Pants/ Comfortable but not too baggy shirt

  • Strength and Conditioning

    This class is a highly aerobic, cardio based class that will strengthen and condition any dancer or athlete. We will concentrate on toning and getting stronger while incorporating dance. This is a mandatory class for anyone who is on the MAD Flyers.

    Attire: Same as jazz tech and stretch

  • Modern

    Find your connection to your center and the floor in a somatic approach to modern technique. Modern will also help you build improvisational and compositional skills you can apply to any technique class. There are various levels within this style.

    Attire:

    ● Girls - Leotard/ Leggings/Capris/Jazz Pants/ No Shoes
    ● Young Men - Black Shorts/ Black Jazz Pants/ Comfortable but not too baggy shirt

  • Tap

    Students will learn rhythm and musicality while tapping to different styles of music. Type of Tap Shoe to be determined by the teacher after classes begin. This will depend on the level of the students in the class.

    Attire:

    ● Girls - Leotard/Capris/Leggings
    ● Boys - Comfortable clothes

  • Elements of Improv. and Composition:

    Ages 13+ for the Advanced Dancer, who may be thinking about dance as a career.

    In this class the students will be introduced to different methods to build their improv and compositional skills. We will use different prompts, props, and prose to inspire movement. Students will be challenged to step outside their comfort zones and explore the infinite ways their bodies can move.

    Attire:

    ● Girls and Young Men - Comfortable dance clothing/ dance shoes up to the discretion of the teacher.

MAD Mini Team

All Levels: beginner

Competition: 1 competition

Classes:

  • 1.5 hour Team class

  • Ballet/Jazz Technique included

  • Other classes encouraged

MAD Flyers

Tumbling and Acrobatic Company/Intermediate/Advanced Level

Experience: 3 years of tumbling/gymnastics experience/3 years of technical dance training

Performance: End of year recital and mall performance
Competition: 3 competitions

Classes:

  • 1.5 hour Monday night MAD Flyer class

  • Strength and conditioning class

  • 1 Ballet Technique Class (student will be placed by faculty)

MAD Company

The most advanced level
Experience: 3 to 5 years of advanced dance training

Performance: End of the year recital, mall performance, and community events ie. parades, fundraisers, ext.

Competition: 3 competitions

Classes:

  • Tuesday night weekly company classes

  • 1 hour Jazz technique and stretch class

  • 1 Ballet Technique Class (student will be placed by faculty)

  • Company class will include rehearsal for a large group or production which will include all dancers

Advanced Program

MAD Teams

All Levels: beginner to intermediate

Competition: 1-2 competitions

Classes:

  • 1 Ballet Technique

  • 1 Jazz Technique

  • 1 Team class

  • Hip Hop team class (optional)

Rules and Regulations

Be Respectful!

  1. No gum, food, or drinks other than water permitted in the dance studios.

  2. No cell phones allowed in class. Please keep them in your bags or in a safe place while you are in class.

  3. Please keep your items in one location, for example in a locker.

  4. If you are not in class, do not sit with your belongings spread out where others can trip over it or get hurt.

  5. No running, yelling, or hanging on items (ballet barres) in or out of the classrooms.

  6. Only dance shoes are to be worn in the classrooms.

  7. Please label all your dancer’s belongings for class so nothing gets lost. Ballet shoes, jazz shoes, etc…

  8. No student(s) will be permitted in the dance studio until your teacher calls you in and is ready for class.

  9. If a dance studio is empty, please DO NOT allow your child to go in and run around to play. This is distracting to other classes and teachers.

  10. No walking around the halls and bathrooms with bare feet. Please put on your shoes if you need to go to the bathroom.
